speedometer, tires & gear

From all the technical articles and post, there is one thing I do not understand:

I changed my tires and the are bigger now (245/50R18)

I have a '93 automatic with 3.08 gear (Y Z)

This picture is similer as what i have now:

This one has got 18 teeth, same as what I got.
How can you put a 19,1 teeth in then????

The problem what I have now is that my speedometer reads 5mph less than I actually driving. My father didn't known that, so when he borrowed my car (without asking) he got a speeding ticket. (Ha!, his fault, he should have asked!)

Where can you buy these things anyway?

(Don't say dealer, there are no Ford USA dealers (left anymore) in the Netherlands!)

If your speedometer is reading LESS that your actual speed, you also want a gear that has LESS teeth on it. If you get a gear with more teeth on it, the speedometer will read even less than the true speed. Below is a list of the different speedo gears - you should be able to order them from most Ford parts resellers:

16 teeth Blue D0AZ-17271-A
17 teeth Green C7SZ-17271-A
18 teeth Grey C7SZ-17271-B
19 teeth Tan C7VY-17271-A
20 teeth Orange C8SZ-17271-B
21 teeth Purple D0OZ-17271-B

Ok, but say it's 17.7 teeth, the nearest one is still 18 teeth?

So I have to live with it?

And then the colors, as you can see on the picture, it is tan. but I count 18.
That should be grey and I'm sure that I'm not colorblind???

I'd just get a 17 tooth and try it. I ordered one from Max at www.fivestarford.com and it was only $5.42, so it's not like you'd be out very much...

BTW, if an 18 tooth says 72mph, a 17 tooth would say 76.24mph, so that would be pretty close towars what you need.
