Cool Trans Problems

I have a 94 T-Bird with 3.8 and auto trans, The problem I'm having with my auto trans is at crusing speed the trans will shift from 4th to 3rd gear and somtimes go to neutral,if I put the gear selecter into neutral and turn the engine off then re start it the works great,I took the car to my local trans shop they test drove the car and hooked a computer tester to it and could not find a problem, they also check the trans fluid there was no shavings and it looked brand new, does anybody have suggestions on what the problem is.

Yes,

It could be the MLPS, which is also called the Neutral Safety Switch, and also called the Transmission Range Sensor.

The 94's had a poor design, which were improved on later models.

For under $65, you can change it yourself in about 20-30 minutes.

I had the same problem with the MLPS with my 94 LX 4.6L, got the updated 8-pin MLPS from bulkparts.com for $34 and solved my tranny hunting problem
