Brake-in procedure for New Gears

This is about the tech article. I read that it was for the gear swap, but if I am getting a whole new pumpkin put in, does this still apply?

Thanks in advance!

I'd say yes, but not 100% sure. I'd rather waste some time and gas, than a brand new pumpkin.
