Cable clutch

How much of a PITA would it be to convert to a cable clutch setup on the SC? I've been thinking long and hard about a Tremec. I have figured out most of the snags, just the clutch and shifter are left.

Why not use a hydrayulic throwout bearing/slave set up like a McLeod or I see there is an external slave kit for a T-56 from John's Mustangs in San Diego www.johnsmustangs.com.
Is your SC already a 5 speed? If not the car already has the provisions to install the pedal assembly. I think to do a cable set up would require way more custom fabrication that the hydraulic.
I've got a hydraulic in mine (for 4 years) & it works fine.

For some reason I was thinking T-56. Sorry. I assume you're talking about the Tremec that's in the late model Mustangs & not a T-45. I don't think they will bolt up to the V6. The T-5 will bolt up as it has the same bolt pattern as a 5.0.
The same reasoning for the hydraulic system would still apply. I know that John's Mustangs has a kit for the T-5.

The Tremec 3550/TKO bolts up. Hydraulic is complicated and expensive.

im trying to remember who, but on their 5.0 bird, he used the t3550 (actually, didnt even change the shifter position, just modified the shifter and center console) ran a cable clutch setup. he fabbed in a fox body stang clutch pedal and ran the cable along the firewall to the tranny hump then popped through to the tranny. from what he told me (i was considering the swap when i had a bird), it was not really all that hard. -greg

Was it Skid? I remember he had a 5- speed installed.

i am almost certain it was Skidonenko... i dont think he comes around here much anymore, but i know he pops on AIM every now and then. hes got his hands full on his current project. i also remember him say, once he got the trans broken in nicely, it shifted like a dream, even with the far forward shifter (which me made shifter arm to come way back). -greg

I plan on something similar with the shifter. I have found a few companies that arc the shifter back farther than the stock shifter. I just need to get the clutch situation down before I start buying things. Does Skidonenko still check his PMs and such? Maybe I should drop him a line. Thanks for the info.

I would assume that there is a clutch fork correct? If so, why couldn't a hydraulic slave cylinder be used with that. That's the way I did it with our race car.

John, I would be converting from a Supercoupe M5R2 with it's hydraulic setup to a Tremec 3550, so I would have to purchase a hydraulic setup that would work on the Tremec. I looked into a few of them and they run anywhere from $300-500.

Unless of course, you used a SC hydraulic setup. I would be really interested to see if that would work.

I'm just asking though, the 3550 uses a clutch fork and throwout bearing right? It might take a little creativity to do. I am not real familiar with the 3550.

Yes, the 3550 uses a clutch fork and throw-out bearing. I am not sure if the SC hydraulic setup would hook up to the 3550 one. That is definitely something to look into.

well, I would guess not. But, I used a wilwood pull type slave cylinder on our race car and it ended up working out pretty well. They also make a push type if that is what you need. It might take a little fabrication, but it can act through just a hole in the fork. Just some ideas...

Well, I have looked into the hydraulic kits already, and I'm sure this would work:

A kit from a Turbo Coupe might work also, but I'd be hesitant to do it without some advice from others who have done it.
