AOD Trans Fluid Suggestions

I am getting ready to put my new engine and rebuilt AOD trans back in the car and I just thought I would double-check to make sure what fluid would be best. I am assuming that Motorcraft Dexron V would be what I would want but I am not 100% sure. Are there any additional tips about put this back in? Would it be best to fill the transmission up with fluid (as well as the torque converter) before I connect it to the engine? Any other thoughts would be appreciated.

AOD's were manufactured to be used with mercon III. of course, now we are technilogically more advanced, and mercon V is readily available. as long as the tranny is empty, use mercon V.

It's definitely empty. Do you know how many quarts of fluid it holds by chance. This is including filling the TC.

10 quarts, including torque converter.

I think... double check the tech articles.

If valve body is dry, it will take some driving before all the air is out of there, so check level frequently - running low can burn it up.

If it's totally empty, I'd buy 13-14 to be sure I had enough Mercon V.
