Tranny Cooler Install Questions

Bought a 28K Tranny Cooler kit the other day from NAPA (I think it's actually a Hayden model.).

Came with a few feet of hose, zip ties, hose clamps, and the cooler.

Now, here's the problem...I can't seem to find the XMSN fluid lines going into or out of the radiator. Help!

I plan on putting it between the radiator and the A/C condenser (yes, I am going to cheese out by using the zip ties), but until I find those lines, I'm kind of stuck.

Can someone tell me where to look? High, low, driver side, passenger side, etc...?

Sorry. I'm going to put it in front of the A/C condenser (not behind it).

OK. I think I found them:

Two hard lines. Both on the Driver's side on the back side of the radiator. They meet up, and then go off to who-knows-where under the engine together. The top one was the cooler one after I ran the engine in Drive with the brake on for a few seconds (the lower one almost burned me, so I'd say that this is a more than worthwhile mod).

My kit came with a 5/16" quick disconnect too. I guess that I am supposed to unhook the return line, put the new quick disconnect in there. Attach one hose piece to there with the other end on the cooler. Attach the other hose piece to the cooler's outlet, and then hook it up to the return line. Right? Somebody stop me if I'm going to screw something up. Thanks.

The lines enter the tranny at the top and bottom of the drivers side of the radiator. The easiest place to splice into the line is where it runs across the front of the engine. Just cut one line and push tubing onto each end. Nice and easy. Be sure to push the tubing 3" - 4" onto each hard line and use two clamps on each hose.

OK. Was I right about the top one being the return line? It was still pretty warm, but not nearly as hot as the bottom one.

So, I guess I'll cut a section out of the return line, put the hose pieces on there about 3-4" back, and clamp them down. Then I'll mount the cooler vertically on the A/C condenser with the openings to the bottom for easier routing of the tubing. Sorry. Thinking out loud here.

I always overthink this crap. Afraid I'm going mess something up...

ok ...so top is the return line...and one question...how much fluid loss will accour installing this cooler... im doing mine this summer, but i just changed my tranny fluid...i dont want to do it again...

Yup, top is return line, and you're doing everything right. Personally, I just disconnected the radiator cooler and ran the cooler lines right into my aftermarket cooler. There is no sense in using the radiator cooler in Florida, as this just puts an additional load on the engine cooling system, and will actually REHEAT the trans oil. Another suggestion is to add a transmission temperature gauge, so you can keep an eye on things.

how much fluid would drain out when removing the lines from radiator to the new cooler....

I would say under a half quart, not gushing out or anything.. It will spray out if you start the car up, so just get a rag and plug it while you get ready to install the cooler.
