Tranny question

I got a question. Ever since i bought my cougar i have noticed that when i put the lever in 2nd when i come to a stop it stays in second gear doesnt shift down to first. Could i have a bad MLPS?? or could it be something else. Other than that the tranny is fine except for my tc needs to be replaced

That's how it's supposed to work

mine is also the same way, I think that is how the 4R70W works. I do agree with you about other cars shifting into first.

The manual with my 94 says that's how it's supposed to work. It's like the C4 and C6 transmissions of the late 60's through the 70's. When you select '2' that's all you get.

With my open diff, it's sometimes the only way I can get going in slippery conditions.

Be glad, that your 4L70W does that. Thats what it is intended to do, its called gear control, so when you are in the snow, you can start off in second, unlike must newer GM's where if your in second, it still starts off in first. Like I said, Be glad you have more control over you transmission, becasue many people don't.

Definately be glad. I've had to take my Cat over 2-3 ft snow drifts in our parking lot at my apartment to get to class. The ONLY way was in 2nd gear.
