rear diff

I have a 1989 thunderbird lx and the rear diff. fluid is really bad. i was wondering what is involed in changing the fluid. i looked under the car the other day and the housing is connected to something i am guessing part of the independent suspension. do i have to support the rear diff. with something when i take that thing off that is connected to the housing?

The front differential mounts will support the diff while you have the rear diff mount out to remove the cover. You could support it if you had something to do it with.
