What tranny's will fit?

What tranny's will replace my 95 4r70w? I know some will bolt up, and it has to be pre-98 for the wiring to work. Or, what valve body's are the same as mine. Refering to other vehicles...Crown Vic, Mustang....Thanks.

The 98+ 4.6L ones are the best bet. 98 Mark8 except for the wiring is the best to get for a simple swap.

mustang/vic trannies will work, but only up to 3.27 gears (unless you get a speedcal box). for these trannies you may need to change the manual lever for the shifter.

Wiring: either swap the stuff from your 95 over (easy), or repin the harness that plugs into the back of the tranny (also easy). Info on the differences and how to swap the parts out is in my article in WIP forum.

I wouldn't bother swapping a 94-5 tranny for a 96-7. A 94-5 can be built up decently, but the cases arent the best for performance. The 98+ are much better. Not worth the effort when you can just buy a tranny ready to go from greenleaf, swap it in and be done.

96 Mustang GT 5spd. w/ 248A Option (GTS). Stock for now until I get the Roush on.

24k B&M Cooler, 1" lowered, Steeda UD Pulleys, Dynomax cat-back, J-mod, 3.73's, PI intake, PI cams, 03 GT MAF/Tube, SCT tuned - Gone but not forgotten.

First of all, I thought '95s had the AODE in it. My '95 Cougar has the AODE in it. Then in '96 they started with the 4R70Ws.

All 94-97 4.6's had the 4r70w as well as the 94/5 SC.

Correct. No MN12s ever had an AODE. Only mid 92-94 Crown Vics and 94-5 Mustangs. And Jeff, if you need a hand getting a tranny together give me a yell.

Well, as of right now. I'm gonna try just changing out the valve body and getting it back to stock first. "The Man" says my converter clutch is sticking. Dunno much about all that but I figure he knows best. After 2 weeks, I FINALLY found a tranny and should be picking it up tomorrow.

If the TCC is sticking, are you just going to try swapping the solenoid first? Or did J recommend swapping the whole VB out? Just trying to figure out where you're at.

Dr. J told me to "set it back to stock", so we took the springs back out and put a stock valve body back in. It's running again so I guess he was right once again. Now I've got a spare tranny to rebuild someday. A freshly rebuilt tranny might go nicely with my "plans" for this summer.

So you bought this tranny, and now you're only using the VB out of it? I'll have to get you a parts list for when you're ready to put that other one together... we'll talk at the next MAMN12 meeting. Speaking of, when/where is the next?

We're meeting up this weekend on Saturday at Mason Dixon for T&T. Couple people trying out some new setups. I HIGHLY recommend you make it!

I'm not fat, but I love cheesburgers. MMMmmm. Anyways, You can also put a C-4 trans w/ mustang tailshaft in your MN-12s now. On 5.0 Resto you can buy a bell-housing for a C-4 to mount to a 4.6L. Not sure about mounts and everything else but I bet that would be different.

HEY!! I resemble that remark!

anyway, does anybody know if a 5.0 T5 will work with a 2.3? i dropped 3rd yesterday, and have a 5.0 T5 .... i know it will bolt up, my concerns are clutch-spline; gear ratios and acceleration; and longevity...
