O/D light again

Well, after having the codes scanned last night, all that came up was a P1407, which is EGR related. The O/D light decided to flash for a few seconds again today while my wife was on her way to work. Once again, no performance loss, just the light. Can't the scanner at Autozone pick up trans codes as well as CEL codes? The guy said that there was only the ERG code in there, no trans codes. How can I find out what the light is trying to tell me? Dealer ($86)? Trans. Shop? Who would have the proper scanning equip., and even if it's a momentary flash, I have been told that there will be a stored code in the ECM. Is it just hiding

These are highly engineered precision vehicles, the first step in diagnosing the problem is to strike the suspected offending part sharply and repeatedly with a blunt object, then re-test.

Mine was flashing non-stop for a while..however, it only did it after a few minutes of driving or acceleration; meaning that it did not flash when I first started the car. Took it to auto zone and the dude couldn't find anything in the computer...but I've been thinking about it and my guess is that you'd have to have the computer scanned WHILE the O/D light is flashing. It only makes sense...I reset my computer and it hasn't come back on since..if/when it does, I'll drive to auto zone, leave the car running (with someone in it of course ) and have them come out and scan it while the car is on and the light is flashing. If you have this done before I do, please let me know if it works. Hope this is of some help...

Those tranny codes should be stored even though the light isn't flashing. I'd try a shop or a dealer. Had a similar experience with the Explorer, light flashed once for a few minutes. Needed a new tranny, good thing I had the warranty!

isn't you suppose to turn off the car before they scanned it? they use the actron cp9135 scanner here and the car have to be stop then plug it up and then only turn to on to scan it. if the car is running while hooked up the scanner it may screw up the scanner.

My daily job is to fry rice for my customers....
