8.8 gear compatability

Are all 8.8 ring and pinion gears interchangable? I can take 3.73 gears out of any 8.8 rear end and put them in the T-bird IRS right?

I was just making sure. Someone told me before that the pinion shaft was longer on the IRS setup. I didn't fully believe him, but I wanted to make sure before I spent any money.

I thought spline count was important, like ours have 28 splines and Mustangs have 31.

What if I was to get a Trac-Lok rear end or whatever the limited slip rear-end in the '99+ cobra's, would it have the same spline as the t-bird/cougars?

No, only the 99's have 28 spline, after 99 they went to 31 spline.
