vent hose

i am having an 8.8 rebuilt and 3.73's installed into it. i noticed that the 8.8 has a vent plug, whereas my 7.5 does not. do i need to attach tubing to that nipple, or will it be all set as is? the reason i ask is because i have seen some pickups come into the shop with actual tubing attached to the plug and then connected to the rear axle.

My 7.5 diff has a vent tube. I'm pretty sure the vent tube just connects to the nipple and runs up into the rear subframe. I'd say you're safe off just running it up into there and leaving it.

The hose is on there to keep water from getting in there, as it has a good chance of doing so in a truck application (think off-roading).

Jon,

My 7.5 had the vent tube also. I just swapped it over to the 8.8 when it was installed.

It's not a 97 Sport, it just looks like one!
