Holding 1st too long???

Alright, my car has done this twice withthin the past few days. Part throttle accelerating from a stoplight. It usually shifts around 3k I think. Today it didnt and i was like hmmm, so I let it go up to redline almost then it hit 2nd, kinda wierd. It was pulling through first...no slipping. No I haven't checked the fluid lately, but that may not be a bad idea since I have a leaky front pump seal. Anyone had similar problems? Transmission internals arent really my strong suit.

Ok just got into it cold as hell and it did it every time I had a 1-2 until it warmed up. Wierd. I'm gonna check the fluid here in a few mins. Also MIL has been coming on and off the past few days. Might give me some insight into whats going on.

AOD or AODE?

The AOD is bad at gumming up the gvernor - especially in the cold.
