my trans is leaking at the filler/dip stick tube. it looks like the hole is damaged, bigger than the tube. any fix other than some fuel tank puddy?

Try replacing the tube first. Go from there. The seal can go bad on those.especially when it's removed......that's why the books say replace the tranny dip stick tube and/or the oil dip stick tube if removed.

Good luck

Or you could just replace the o-ring on the tube that actually creates the seal for less than $1

Ditto, the o-ring doesn't usually seal up that great after you have removed it. Just need a new one, not a whole new dipstick.

Make sure it is bolted up at the top bracket also. This keeps it pushed down to seal.

If the hole is damaged, I'm not sure what will hold up. I'd test it in a bucket of Mercon-V first to see if it eats it up. The putty you mentioned, JB-weld, epoxy.

Good luck,
Rob
