4R VB universal? AODE VB universal?

Question about 4R vb's.....do all 4R vbs work with all 4R's. If I modded a 93 vb will it fit on a 97? I know my way around AOD's pretty well, but I am getting into 4R's now. Sma e question with AODE's.

The newer VB's are better. I wouldn't use an older style VB in a new 4r

There is a conversion kit to convert the dowl pins to use the older style 4r in a new style 4r trannie.

So the answer is no - there is a dowl pin change? It isn't that I would want to do this kind of swap - but I assume that NEW 4r VB's fit ALL old 4R's correct? The tranny istself is cake.....it is the vb diffrences and control that gets me all confused.

well, since I have read that many folks have advised you "update" to a 99+ VB, I would suspect they are interchangeable.

With the sleeves to fo over the dowel pins on the VB, a 99+ (or best an 01+ VB) can be retrofitted to any AODE/4R70W. It's more a matter of year than model IIRC. 96+ have a different thickness plate, and there are different EPC brackets - so if you update the VB to a 96+ on a pre96 car, you'll need the correct bracket. From what I gathered from Jerry's article on our site, a 94 AODE VB will interchange with a 94 4R70W VB physically. There may be minor spring difference inside, but there have been dozens of those changes over the years, and none of them should be that drastic. You can't fit a pre96 VB onto a 96+ trans (luckily).
