Which Speedo gear?

Got 3.55's a few weekends ago and have been trying to figure out the correct speedo gear. The sccoa calculator says tan, the one already in there from the 3.27's, but after searching here seem JL says orange. I am leaning towards orange because the calculator doesn't seem to be accurate when stock numbers are put in. It says a blue gear but mine came with a green and says a green gear shoulda been used with the 3.27's. The 3.27's and speedo gear came from a 96 sport so I was running the correct tire size and everything for that set up.

Thanks,
Bryan Miller

You need a 19 tooth tan speedometer gear. Unless you have an 8 tooth shaft which will require a 21 tooth purple.

The trans is a 96 trans so it should be a 7 tooth drive. I'll have to check but I am pretty sure its has a tan one in there already.

Thanks Alan

No problem. Here is the calculator I use in case you need it.
http://home.att.net/~jroal/drive.htm

Actually I have a discrepancy in your tire size. those tires should not be 26.6 tall
If they are truely that tall you need the tan gear if they are shorter you need the orange gear.

The tires are kelly chargers. When I went to their site it says 26.6 as tire height.

I guess if you want I could get out from in front of the computer and walk out in the cold rain with my tape measure

EDIT: Raining harder than I thought, think I will wait a few. What number did you get?

I just punched it in by the tire dimensions and compared that to trying it by tire height. They did not match.

Me too the 19.3 calculation would make the tan (19 tooth)gear closest. The 19.9 calculation would use the orange (20 tooth) gear.

With 3.27's, 215/70R15, 8 tooth output, it looks like I'd need a purple 21 tooth gear, correct?

I got 20.7 so 21 would be the closest

Ok finally got around to switching gears. I had a 19 tooth tan gear in the trans like I thought and went to the orang 20 tooth gear. While traveling with Tydlwavs and Blacktbird96 they both were going 60 in their Foci while I was at 58 or so mph. Should I go back down to the tan gear?

Two things:

According to my calculations, a 225/60/16 tire should be 26.6299 inches tall.

225/25.4 = 8.858

(section width/millimeters per inch) = 8.858

8.858x.6x2 = 10.6299

(8.858 x aspect ratio x two sidewalls) = 10.6299

10.6299 + 16 = 26.6299

(10.6299 + wheel diameter) = 26.6299

Hope that made sense.

Now, my question is, how do you know whether you have the 7 or 8 tooth speedo drive gear? For instance, which gear would a 94 Mark 8 have? Is there a list of which transmissions have which gear?
