Tranny suggestion

I have a 94 4.6L Tbird and the tranny crapped itself. It shifts from first to second then once it hits where it should shift to third it goes into neutral and revs up unless I just stick it in second and drive like that. I took it to AAMCO ( the only place I knew of at the time) and they said it needed a rebuild. I since have found out from some friends a good local place to do tranny work. I know very little about tranny's and would like some suggestions on what to ask for. As long as Im getting a rebuild might want to throw a different set of gears on or a mod that maybe they can do while they are at it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

don't take it to aamco.

Install a late model mustang/vic/marquis trans in that car and save yourself a ton of money.

to see how its done.
