early 90s 5.8L bellhousing pattern

Hello,

I have access to a early 90s 5.8L out of a bronco. Will this engine bolt up to a C4. I believe it came with a AOD but am not sure if the AOD has the same bolt pattern as the earlier C4.

Thank you

Does anyone have spare headlights or corner lights for a cougar?

C4

---Hello

Yes a C4 will bolt up to a 351W, I have one right now.

How-ever The C4 had 2 sizes. Small & large, You need the large. The Torque converters are different sizes, The large has the Converter drain plug near A Converter stud. The small is spaced 1/2 way between 2 studs.

I understand that the 351s bolt-up to the C4 - but will a 5.8L from an early 90's bronco require an AODE instead? I'd prefer an AOD for the overdrive, but a C4 would be fine. I believe that the moter can use an AOD but I'm 'kinda scared that it won't bolt-up. Some time in the 90's they changed over to the electronic controlled AODE (which has a different bolt patten.)

Please post back as soon as possible if anyone has a positive answer to whether or not this motor needs an AODE trans.

Thx,
NIk

C4's have many different bellhousings theres alot more than 2. There are 3 for the 302/351 engine. the 2.3 and 2.8 housings and altho I have never seen one I am sure there is a large version as well. I know my cousins 77 bird had a 400M engine with a c4.

WINDSOR MOTORS 5.8/5.0/3.8 and 4.2 mod all have "windsor tranny" bolt pattern.

Meaning c4/c6/aod/aode/4R70W will all bolt up once you have the correct bell.
The C4 has MANY bells, but the 157/164 windsor pattern is the most popular along with the 157/164 tooth flexplate.

351/old 302 are 28oz imbalance flexplate
5.0HO/3.8 are 50oz imbalance flexplate

AOD IS ALWAYS windsor
AODE from 3.8/5.0 stang are windsor
4R70W from 3.8/4.2 are windsor
AODE/4R70W from 92+ 4.6 are mod bolt pattern
