trans fluid

well my cars trans is doing more funny crap lately it likes to shift into nuetral if im coasting with my foot off the gas it'll rev up ill let off and it'll shift then clunk, also somtimes if im going say 35 and i let off and get on the gas lightly it'll be in 1st gear and not shift until i let off again my question is could this be from too much trans fluid? i checked it and its clean but its way full about and inch and a half higher on the dipstick past the white plastic part that says cold and hot i checked it hot with the car off and with the car on. could this be because its too full and whips the fluid around causing air to be mixed in with it (kinda like overfilling a car with oil and the crank whipping the oil around) just wondering, thanks
