Exclamation Broken Rear Cover Again !!!

I had a 373 pumpkin built with an auburn pro took it home and put it in myself. After the first day i saw a leak, took the cover off and noticed about a 2in crack that went all the way through the cover right next to where the mount for the rear isolator is.

Got another cover figured it was a freak accident. Put it on sat drove 6 miles and its leajin again. Havent taken the cover off to see if its cracked yet but it has to be. There are no leaks coming from where the cover bolts to the pumpkin. I also have a steeda irs brace on the cover.

Anyone have any idea why this might be happening. The car has 137,xxx miles on it.

Just a WAG, but I would take off the Steeda brace and see what happens. Maybe you're getting some binding with the brace. Almost like the brace isn't seating properly and when you tighten it down, you're "springing" the aluminum rear cover.

But again, that's just a wild guess.

Sounds like I need to scrounge for another cover. I would have to agree something has to be twisting the thing. You are sure it fits that cover correctly aren't you I have other covers. They are slightly different.

No the cover fits perfect but i was thinking that the rear isolator might be bad and leaving too much play under accelation. Some other people are running the steeda brace on here and i havent heard and problems from anyone else.

Dirtydog if you have another cover like the last one you sent me let me know. I dont even know what to do anymore but its drivin me carzy.

i can see where is your problem now and can quaranty what cause it...the steeda irs cover!!!

with the stock tbird cover and the steeda brace on, there are a little bit gap about 1/8 or 1/16th of an inch difference between the cover and the brace where the 2 big bolts go through.

when i installed mine i was thinking this wasn't right and if i tighten it down it will cause problem. what i did is put 2 washer between them(luckily i have couple washer laying around) and it's a perfect fit.

from behind look at this pic where i draw with the red circle is where the washer is, i forgot what thickness the washer is but it is about 1/2 or 2/3 of the thickness of the rectangle plate that the steeda brace came with.

i forgot the thickness of the washer nor the thickness of the rectangle plate but once you bolt it down and when you see the gap, use a washer that is thick enough to fill the gap, even a little bit gap will still cause trouble in the long run.
the washer i had laying around is for bolt 1/2" or sort like that and it fit the gap perfectly.

hope this help you and if you have any question feel free to ask.

Casper is correct. The thickness of the part of isolator that mounts in between the cover and the brace is different between the Birds and Stangs, and using a Stang brace on a Bird will put it in a bind. I am using a Billetflow brace on mine, and they make a separate one for each car for that reason.
