Half Shaft Advice

So, I took my "project" (one of the '94 T-Birds) car out after rebuilding the tranny and performing a J-Mod on an updated VB and it ran great! I ran through a couple of tanks of gas (about 600 total miles) and decided I would try to see if I noticed an improvement with the J-Mod. . . . . .

Press the gas -> spin the tires -> shift into second -> spin the tires -> BANG, clunk, POW.

Go to stop the car and then I can't go anywhere. I don't have Park or any gear! I think. . . . "Self, what did you do wrong?" Have wrecker come tow the bird back to the house and into the garage. Get it up on jack stands to remove the tranny and there I see it: I have twisted one of the half shafts in two and the CV boot on the other has the clamps sheared off. So now I need new half shafts. I just replaced these about a year ago and they have probably less than 1000 miles on them. They are remans I got from O'Reilly's, but I can't find anything other than this without spending way too much money on them. Can anyone offer some advice for a slightly better built (reman or new) part these T-birds.

BTW I have started at the rear end with this project, so I don't have any engine power adders. . . . .I have only gotten as far as the tranny. I am only looking to get a modest amount of power increase from this car anyway. . . . .say maybe 220 or so RWHP.

2 - '94 T-bird LX's 4.6L (one with 300,000+ miles and one with 200,000+ miles)
1 - '97 Mark VIII LSC - INTECH V8 (120,000+ miles)
1 - '97 F150 XLT 4x4 Flareside, 4.6L (130,000+ miles) - Currently being dismantled and rebuilt with upgrades!
1 - '00 Mustang GT (likes to accelerate with the brake on!), 4.6L (60,000+ miles - only comes out when I need to get somewhere fast.)

oh yeah, and they all have 4R70W's

The most economical option is to get SC shafts. One side was much thicker than the other so you should try to find two of the thicker ones. (I forget which is which.)

SC shafts are getting hard to find, The markVIII shafts are an improvement over stock as well and alot easier to find.

Thanks, Alan that does sound a little easier to accomplish rather than looking for one side of a set twice.

I have a set off a 96 tbird with only 50000 miles on them. PM if interested.

2.25 Mid-mount true dual exhaust,

So, you are saying my daily 1 - 2 chirp isn't a good thing? But, it's so hard not to suprise people... normally accelerating and then shifting into 2nd at around 3100RPM with a *CHIRP*, all without flooring it, speeding, etc.

Mine does that all the time and hasn't hurt it yet he prolly just had some wore out axles. Most guys (with automatics) that break shafts are making over 300rwhp and running slicks when they break.
