Aod Fluid Level

ive always read that you have to overfill and AOD, but how much over, i got it to the full line, and it sometimes is slow goin into second. when i bought it it was overfull, but when i serviced the tranny i just put it back to the full line. how much over is it suposed to be or does it affect all years...thanks.

Good question....

I keep mine filled to the "Do Not Overfill" warning stamped on the stick. If I only fill to the correct level as indicated on the stick, the tranny doesn't want to engage properly when its cold. I think there must be some difference in how the dipstick tube seats in the new AOD I recently installed. It seems like I have to reach a little farther down behind the engine to get to the stick from the topside than I used to. Anyway, I just keep mine full to the point that it operates properly. I think if it was too full it would blow some out the breather on the top. That isn't happening so it seems to be OK...

Ford stated exactly that in a tsb. don't use the full level indicator fill to the D in Don't
