Aod?

What's the difference between a AOD and AOD-E?
Reason asking is because I have a 1993 Cougar 3.8 and my transmission is on it's way down- Everything I've read says I have an AODE, when I thought is was an regular AOD-

What's the easiest way to distingush the 2?

thx-

No MN12 came with the AOD-E from the factory. Ergo, you have an AOD.
Edit: Some confusion might be coming from the fact that many people consider the 4R70W in 94-97's to be an AOD-E. As similar as it is, it is not an AOD-E.

AOD is mechanically controlled, you will have a TV cable from the throttle body to the tranny. AODE is electronically controlled and you will have wires going to the tranny (more than just to the neutral safety switch).

AOD shift selector has 1-D-OD pattern
AODE shift selector has 1-2-D pattern and an electrical way of locking out OD

As far as physically from the outside of the tranny, I don't know of any tell tale signs, I haven't looked at the side by side.

BUT as mentioned already, your 93 has an AOD
