info on my 97 aode

don't feel like going through all of the tech articles right now...feelin lazy today. just thought i'd make one more thread just to make sure of what my next step is. so i have the 97 aode....i just spoke with my buddy from Ford and he tells me that the tranny i have is nearly identical to the 4r70w with the exception of the intermediate one way clutch and diode? he said that mine should have the wide gear ratios as well. he said i would be better off to rebuild my current tranny than to swap it out with an 04 4r70w (in which case i would need to swap the extension housing and output shafts so that my speedometer functions correctly). what do you guys think about this?

Not only is your transmission nearly identical to an 4R70W, it is a 4R70W.

Also, I think you would need to swap some things on the '04 because I think it uses a magnetic VSS instead of a gear-driven one like your 97.

The difference in a4r70w basically is just gear ratio and output shaft diameter. There is no such thing as a 97 aode, they were all 4r70w at that point.
