Jmod and clutch plates?

Hey everyone, I'm lookin at doin the J-mod durring the beginning of November. Was talkin to dad today, and he's worried i might tear the clutches up in the tranny because it's got 110K miles on it.

Main reason he's worried bout it, was he did it once on a C5 tranny on my sisters old Cougar, and lost the clutch on the tranny.

Still wanting to do it, but just need your input on this one. Also, how much am I lookin at purchasing total? I already have a tranny cooler that's comin off dads truck. So that's out of the way.

Hey man i cant answer the cluch part but the price is $80 for everthing and that cooler you are getting... is it a stacked plate type or fin type because you better off with the Plate as far as iv read. Talk to dirtydog about buying the kit

Heh.. C5.. I can remember a certain Granada getting to see the expiration of 3 C5 trannies before it finally settled on one before being sold.

I don't think you really have much to worry about. Mine is at 194k .. JMod'd at around 160k. Think I did mine at Mild w/gear change setting (4.6 and 3.55s). For the cooler, the stacked plate type is recommended as it's more efficient at exchanging heat than the typical fin setup is. As for cost, I don't really know.. however, if you get in touch with dirtyd0g or Darrin, they should be able to set you up as you need.

The j-mod will help your clutches last longer. Faster shifting=less time slipping while shifting. Yes, it will be harder on other parts of the drivetrain... like u-joints or axles. What would you rather replace... the clutches inside the transmission or the u-joints?

I had almost 240k on my 96 when I modded it with one of my kits.
Depends on how the car was taken care of up until this point.

I've actually taken quite good care of the car. The tranny has never given me a problem at all.

Is there some type of special additive that turns your tranny fluid purple color? It was changed before I bought the car at 86K. They had just done it that day. I honestly have yet to change the fluid (I know I know) but isnt it like 30K when you change the fluid out or somethin?
