$475 Mistake

Prior to the first engine install on my bird somehow the heat shield at the front of the gas tank got pushed up into the drive shaft. It cut a groove into it before I realized it. While installing the engine and trans in we inadvertently put the cross member in upside down. This set the pinion angle off and stressed the DS so badly it broke it at the groove. I made it about 100 feet before it broke.

Lesson learned.

LOL, I didnt try, even some Autozone tard parts guy could tell it wasnt a product defect. It looks like someone cut it with a pipe cutter. If I had tried to return it they would have laughed their asses off at me.

off the wall question, since drive shafts are welded on the ends anyway, would a welded sleeve over the cut be okay?
As long as its straight, and balanced correctly, it seems the DS would be stronger in that area....maybe not though..

with the welding it may make that place actually weaker i thought? maybe a hell to try to balance it afterwards too?

I'd bet a good machine shop could weld it, and get it to spin true on a lathe. I wouldn't think it would make it any weaker unless you couldn't get penetration on it. I don't even know what alloy an mmc is. I could find out though, and try it. If you're just gonna throw it away, I'll take it. ...dibs on the broken driveshaft lol.

That sux and they no longer build the MMC shafts anymore. I found out when I broke mine in the Mark. Good news was they were able to weld a new yoke on it instead of replacing it.
