which offset

just finished changing my 93 cougar to the 4.50 bolt pattern with the cobra rotors in front and back.i want to go to 17 or 18 inch wheels, but the problem is im planning on going to the columbus ford swap meet this week and im pretty well have to get these suckers right on the offset.im looking at the cobra r wheel or the 10 anniversary cobra wheel.my buddy has a set of cobra r on his 96 mustang which we tried on my car, they have a 24mm offset and they stick out past my wheel lips like a sore thumb.if anyone who did this conversion what offset did you go with,im thinking its around 36 to 40mm to be safe.since i might be buying these without trying on the car first any input would be greatly appreciated.i know i left a lot of info out like what actual size rim, width.tire size i want to go with but im kinda in left field now.i see a lot of guys running cobra wheels and would like to know what the best offset and size to go to.thanks

I have the 10th anniv. wheels on my car and the previous owner had 4mm milled off the wheels so they would not stick out past the fenders. I guess now that would make these 17x9 with a 30mm offset.

I have 18x9 with a 36mm offset and they sit perfectly in my opinion. The car had 17x9 '03 Cobra wheels with the 26mm offset and I did not like how far out they sat.

yea i thought id be close around 36 mm.i really liked the 10th anniversary cobra wheel but according to darin from the last post they are 26mm plus he shaved off 4mmto make it about 30mm offset in the the picture,so i guess that leaves them out, well its a start anyway.thanks guys for your input keep it coming.

I would look at '05-present Mustang wheels. The 9" wide wheels typically have the right offset for our cars.

18x9 2003 Cobras @ +31.5mm offset. (5.5mm machined off) 245/45/18 all around.

I'd like to see some pics of cars with the 2005+ mustang 18x9 wheels (40mm offset seems to be the most common).

Sorry...I meant the replica wheels are +36mm offset. The wheels made specially for the 2005-present Mustangs vary pretty widely from +30mm to +45mm for a 9". I would rather have hubcentric spacers to make one stick out more than to machine off of the wheel.

I'm considering a set of Mach 1 wheels with 4mm spacers, making the offset 36mm. I'm just trying to talk myself into justifying the expense of doing the hub swap.

easy, you dont have to tell anyone you have the same pattern as a taurus anymore

thats worth the swap alone!

My wheels are replicas intended for the 05+ Mustangs. I did not feel comfortable machining wheels so I bought bigger better wheels instead.

well i was really looking at the 10th anniversary wheel but with the 26mm offset and having to mill 4mm off to fit behind the wheel lip it leaves that one out ,30mm sticks out to far in my opinion,i dont have access to machining them down but since i started this post,a lot of guys did their own special machining of their wheels.im kind of looking for a set that i dont have to mess with, bolt on out of the box,but it seems that everyone has their own littletrick to make them fit.so it looks like im going to have to go to a after market wheel with the right offset which is prabably a 36mm.i learned a lot from this post, you just dont throw a set of cobra wheels on and expect them to fit without some kind of modification.thanks for the input guys im off to the columbus ford swap meet on saturday maybe ill find an after market wheel for a descent price,if i dont its off to a wheel distributer to find the right one.

I bought my wheels through a company I found on Ebay. I did not buy through an ebay auction as they did not show them as a set of 4 18x9 wheels without tires. I emailed them and setup the purchase for $450 plus 80 shipping for just the rims which was a really good price in my opinion. The company is Bones Enterprises and here is a link to their Ebay store:
