BFGoodrich g-Force Sport

Well my TBird needs new tires and I am looking at a couple of options. A tire I have no experience with is the BFGoodrich g-Force Sport. Does anybody here have any experience with it?

I am looking at the following setups:

1) BFGoodrich g-Force Sport 225/50/16 for the Front, 255/50/16 for the rear.

3) BFGoodrich Traction T/A V 225/50/16 for the Front, 245/50/16 for the rear. I currently have the Traction T/A V 225/60/16 on all 4 corners. I am not impressed with the treadwear of these tires.

3) Pirelli PNero Zero M+S 225/50/16 on all for corners. These are the tires that are on my Mustang( 235/55/17 ) as OEM tires. I really like these tires.

I think that really option 1 and 3 are viable for me. Any thoughts...

the sports are great, i've got those on my "fun" wheels and they have great dry traction and pretty good when it rains. i'd get them again in a heartbeat, i wouldnt recommend them for the cold seasons though.

ironicly i have traction t/a's as my winter tires too, they arent bad, but they havnt really impressed me either, i havnt had them long enough to judge treadwear yet, but they grip the same as my cheapo invader tires.

I have some 225/60/16 fuzion HRI's and they are actually quite good so far when it comes to dry/wet traction. I'd say 6/10 dry and 7.5/10 wet/cold/snow, and this being on a Mark VIII. I've heard nothing but good reviews for the g force sports for a performance tire. In the wet and cold, not as good.

Cobra upper and lower intake, 65mm Ford Racing TB, E303 cam, opened up E7 heads, Mac headers, Magnaflow true Duals, Tragnsgo shift kit, 3.73's in an auburn posi, hardly spins the tires! I NEED MORE SPEED! Anyone have anything quicker they want to trade for? PM ME!

The BFG Tractions have pretty bad treadwear, but they're sticky; at least they are when the temperature is over about 40F... I love them, here in the south.

The sports are more sticky, but treadwear is worse, IMHO.

I'd say the biggest issue you have is the ambient temperature. What hooks up in 20F weather and below?

For cold weather here, I used to use Pirelli P4 tires on my Subaru; They aren't available for the Cougar, however.

I am not really worried about colder weather traction, the car usually sits in a garage from November to April. This year that happened a little late and the car did see some snow/ice but that is against the norm for it now. It is parked now, it will be getting new tires in the spring, maybe even earlier since I have a spare set of rims for it.

Why do you want such short tires for the front of the car? Unless the car is lowered a lot, the smaller diameter tires look lost in the big fender openings. 225/50R16 will be almost 2" smaller in diameter than OEM tires. The 255/50R16 is pretty good, it's only around 1/2" shorter. My suggestion would be to look at 225/55R16, if you're set on that width ... OD will be slightly less than an inch shorter than original. Or stick with 225/60R16 if you're using the same size all around.

The P-Zero Nero is a nice working tire, they offer pretty good grip along with a decent ride. I think that you would find them to be a more comfortable tire than either of the BFGs, especially the g-Force Sport.

I am not set on such a narrow tire. My car is lowered an 1". I do like the Pirelli's and would like them more if I could get a wider rear. The Pirelli's do come in 225/55/16 tire and am looking at those as well, actually I thought that was the size I listed but looking again it is not.

I would like to have something a little wider than a 225 on the rear, I was thinking 245 to a 255 because of how this car easily spins the 225 tires. Not very often you can punch an auto car at 60 MPH and spin the rears and this car does it occasionally. I am looking for something that will hook when you punch it.

I would like the same brand and tire on the front and rear, however I would like a wider rear. If you got some suggestions other than what was listed, I am all ears to it.

Well, if you're making a fair amount of power, which I'm assuming you are with the larger displacement engine, 20 or 30 extra mm of section width may not make the difference between hooking up and not. Sounds like you're approaching drag radial territory as far as your traction requirements, but that's a higher-dollar decision, and limits the street usage ... wet traction is very poor with them.

The Traction T/A rubber you cuurently have is more of a touring or general usage tire, even though it does come in some lower profile sizes. If you were to install something that is more of a performance oriented tire, like the P-Zero Nero or the g-Force Sport, that may be enough to keep you hooked up from a roll. It really depends on how much you want to spend on tires, and how often you can afford to replace them. Higher end stuff will usually hook up better, but often at the expense of rapid tread wear. How many kilometres per summer would you typically be putting on the car?

Take a look at the test results and owner feedback on the Tire Rack website too, that will give you some ideas. You can also look for various sizes for availability in different tire models, and it gives you the option to search for different front and rear sizes.

You made me think of something I didn't already. I have a set of MT 255/50/16 ET Street Drag Radial mounted on a set of rims that I use when I take the car to the track. I never thought of using that tire for DD purposes as my car will make about 20,000 KM's a year.

I have 4 of these rims for my TBird. 2 of them have the MT's mounted and 2 do not have anything on them. These are the rims I intended to use with the new tires. I was going to sell these MT's as I am moving down to a 15" tire when I go to the track.

Going that route, I would only need to buy 2 tires, the fronts.

I am concerned with driving the car in the rain on the MTs though, that is kind of why I am looking for a good tire.

This opened up quite a few more options though.

Having thought about it some and reading up on it. I don't think the drag radial is the right tire for me. I found a tire that is higher rated than the Pirelli's I was looking at.

Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position tires. I am looking at 225/55/16 front, 245/50/16 on the rear. From the calculator I have, these tires should be the same height which is why I am looking at the slightly shorter tire for the front than stock. Thoughts on this combo?

I have went ahead and bought the Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position tires. I went with 225/60/16 for the front, 245/50/16 for the rear. They will be installed thursday.

225/50/16 is a very short tire. Why not run 255/50/16 on all 4 corners - that is what I have. Much closer to stock tire height.

I realize that, the reason behind this size choice is that it is a 7 day wait from when I bought these tires to them getting here. There is a back order on the 225/55/16 tire and I would have to wait longer for the fronts. The car is being daily driven currently, so I chose not to wait.

What brand are you using? I have the 255/50's in Falken Ziex-512's, and the tire wear is atrocious. I've managed 15,000 miles at best out of mine. I had the same tire in 235/60's, and it wasn't much better.

Well, I am wrong, I won't be getting the tires installed tomorrow. Only my 245/50/16 showed up. It will be next week, when my fronts show up, which I was able to correct to the 225/55/16 for the front. I am happy now.

I am using the same and get about the same mileage. There is not much to choose from in 255/50-16 besides the Falken (all season) and the G-Force (summer). Falken has discontinued the 512's and the new replacement 912(?) does not come in that size.

I was using 245/50-16 first and had Kumho's and then Falken's, mileage was about the same. When I put in my Vogtland lowering springs I was hitting the bolts holding my JL bars in on some bumps. The 255 is a tad taller than the 245 and that made the difference. Just not much available in that size - it was an older Corvette size.

I have those same Falken's on my Fiero GT, only in a smaller size (225 and 215/60 /15). They are fine there, but it doesn't see the miles the bird does.
I'll probably go back to 235/60's, in a different make, like Hankook Optimo H 418. Only $83 at Discount Tire and supposed to be good for 60k miles.
