Sport Rim Width

I was wondering what the width is for the '96-97 Tbird Sport rims was. I'm looking at getting wider tires but I doubt that the stock rims are 7" wide right? (I'm looking at 245/50-16).

Thanks!

If I am not mistaken, I think they are 8". But you can definately run 245/50/16, because that is what I run on my Sport rims. It may take the tire guy a little bit to get it on because it fits the width of the rim like a glove. IDK if you can go any wider or not.

I run 245/50/R16's on the 16 x 7 inch winter rims, with no problems. I will post some pics of the sidewall, it is fine. Take care, JPT.

You can definitely run a 245 or even a 255 series tire on the 16x7 MN12 wheels (Sport, SC, and 7-spoke XR7 wheels). Heck, I actually have a set of 28x11.50-16 ET Streets on a pair of the 7-spokes for my XR7. I wouldn't go quite that wide on a street tire though.

My car doesn't have that much power so 245 will be fine

right now the rears are stock size knobby winters that were on when I bought the car, gotta get those off for the summer.

Garage
245/50-16 will give you a SUV fender gap if you are using stock springs. 235/60-16 may be a better choice. I run 255/50-16 with 1" lowering springs.

I ended up with 245/50-16 and the fender gap isn't too big plus it bumps up my gear ratio to about 3.40 (from 3.27) due to the smaller radius. The 245's give awesome grip (summer tires) at the track as you can see from the lead i got on the turbo 240 i was racing on the weekend (although he did end up beating me by 1.5sec ET though lol)

for sh*ts sakes, I didn't even notice, the garage I went to for the tires were a bunch of morons. Looks like I gotta go back tomorrow and have them figure that out. Thanks.

Dont worry, I am just a rim Nazi because it seems like everytime I post a pic, my rim is on backwards and people jump all over me for it. Thats all.
