18" wheels...Which tires will fit???

Hello all,

Thinking about going up to 18" wheels in Chrome because I am sick and tired of dealing with painted wheels. My AP Racing pads create more dust than you would believe. Anyway I am looking at the Shelby GT500 wheels and wonder what the best tire size is. On 17" wheels I like the 255-50-17s but this is not a common 18" size. Thanks for your help.

Mark

Mark, are the Shelby GT500 wheels 9.5" wide with +32MM offset?

255-50-17s are about 27" tall.
245-45-18s are about 26.5" tall.
255-45-18s are about 27" tall.
275-40-18s are about 26.5" tall.
285-40-18s are about 27" tall.

I believe 275-40-18 would be the best "fit" for a 9.5" wide wheel.

Per Brad "A 245-45-18 will be fine on that wheel...
You can also run a 275-40-18 in the rears if you so choose."

On a side note -
I understand why you want chome wheels
but on your balck & gold "Batmobile" ?

Yes those are the right specs. I wish that wheel came in a 17" version then I would just go with the 255 50 17s as 27" tires fits the car perfectly.

255/45R18 are 27" tall, that's the size I had on all corners when I was running on that wheel diameter.

cheers

Well if he could bead blast my 16" wheels and powdercoat them gold I would go for it. I just wonder if brake dust sticks to a powdercoated wheel as bad as a painted wheel.

yes but can you easily wash off Hawk brake dust. It stains paint.

I don't know if there's a difference but with my painted silver stock 97 sport wheels, I keep a couple layers of wax on them and brake dust simply wipes right off. And I have really messy organic pads.

If the pads contain any chemical etchents released in the dust then all bets are off but otherwise the double encapsulation is pretty resistant to any automotive chemicals (although extended exposure to brake fluid will cause finish degradation and damage)

Those are some really good looking wheels. If he'd have had them in silver, instead of chrome, I'd have those wheels
