need advice on tires

I need two new rear tires. My car is stored for the winter so snow is not an issue. Im looking for something on the performance end...not "grandma tires' Im still running the stock size of 215/70/15.

Ive been told these three are good choices but i wanted to know what you all thought and if anybody had these tires.

Firestone Firehawk Indy
Cooper Cobra GT
Pirelli P4 Four Season

I do race at the track too if that matters...

Thanks, -TJ

TJ I have the Pirelli P6s on my Jaguar and they are great tires ! Very low road noise, Rides great, Great traction, And great handling. The P4s are in the same range.

i work with and test drive cars with brand new tires all day.. i can give you some decent tires that wont kill your wallet persay..

1.(and i have these on my tbird..) Sumitomo touring or HTR4's if you can get over the tread lean(which youll have with any performance touring tire) honestly.. with an aftermarket TC and my little boltons. i couldnt get my rears to spin in the rain unless i dropped the brakes at about 1500 rpm... from a dead stop they wont spin much at all..

2. i have a friend with a 90 SC.. just put some Kumho Ecsta's on it (no not the minivan ecstas..) from wht he tells me it takes everything his Sc has to get them to spin and they grip like hell in a corner..

3.BFG traction T/A's (not Radial T/A's) they look mean as hell and they dont oly just look mean.. theyre decent on grip in the rain, and in the dry they make ALOT of smoke if you get them to spin lol

4.(note these arent all that great in rain...) the BFG Radial T/A's, theres a few of you running these here and you all will agree that een on a stock rim they give your car somewhat of a "muscle car" look if you were to look at them from he rear ad they have RWL too which always is a plus because IMHO RWL tires look badass on these cars..

ill list more as i think of them but that should give you some idea of whats out there thats applicable with are cars.. hope that helps bro

2 reviews in one here.. the pirelli's and the firehawk indy 500's are about the same in dry grip.. a stock tbird can break them loose in the dry no problem(in the wet the P4's would grip alot more than the 500's) the p6's darren has are alot softer of a compound the p4's and the indy's both have a harder compound than yokohama's AS430's and the falken ZIEX's.. which is a tough job to do.. so you wont get all that much grip through a turn and youll get a harder ride.

the coopers and a decent tire, personally i havent had them on one of MY cars but i put a set on a dodge shelby daytona a few days ago and had to take it for a test drive for an alignment check so i decided to have a little fun.. for the power that car has once the turbo spooled up the tires were done in wet and dry.. but from a dead stop it wouldnt spin them if the car was just idling. they have a mildly soft compound and they grip real well through turns and give that "just right" feeling in your ride comfort.

honestly (and i feel like a broken record on this) id go with the Sumitomo HTR4's or the Sumitomo Touring.. like i said i have them on my tbird and the ride is amazing (compared to the falkens and yokohamas ive had in the past). the grip these have thorugh a turn is excellent (not trying to get arrested here) but when theres a posted sign that says you have to make a turn doing 25 and you do it going say.. 60-65.. with no screaming of the tires.. no slidng.. nothing.. just planted, raw, grip then you know you have a helluva tire... also the one thing i really like about thses tires (althogh its completely irrelevant..) is that when you get them to start screaming.. the have a deep, "muscley"(spelling?) tone to them.. so it doesnt sound like you just ran over a little girl lol

if you buy these tires buy them through tire rack because the only store i know of that will sell them to you and mount them and balance etc. is tire kingdom.. and plus theyre almost $30 ceaper if you get the off tirerack.com

clicky!!!

I'd be in the camp with Darren on the one's you're looking at. My pics would be Pirelli, Firestone, something else, Coopers. The Cooper Cobra is cool looking tire, but I've had them and they don't really measure up against the others. Zack has great input and I know a lot of people who run Sumitomo's and will not go another way. They do look good too. I have Dunlop Qualifier GT's now and love them, but they have been discontinued. I will probably go with either BFG Radial T/A's or Continentals next time.

Mods? Do the ones in the garage waiting to go on the car count?

Many thanks to my fellow Veterans; I am honored to be a part of your ranks.
