Mustang Wheels

What is the difference in fitment between the '94 to 2003 Mustang wheels and the 2003 to 2009 wheels? Anyone know? Just curious, trying to help a neighbor.
Thanks!

94-04 less backspacing
05-current more backspacing

for example the 08 18x8 factory wheels have 50 mm offset
the 08 17x8 factory wheels have 45 mm offset
the 04 17x8 factory wheels have a 30 mm offset

1.5 and 2 centimeters difference in backspacing.

I guess a little more specific information would be needed to get a good answer.

So....would the newer different offsets fit a 2003 without any major problems?
Thanks!
