question about wheel fitment....(clueless about rims here)

Hi there, quick question. I ran into a guy in a site selling a set of 17" rims that look pretty decent and at a decent price. But i want to make sure that they will fit our cars. He says he had these installed in a mustang and a 1993 VW Eurovan...i've never actually bought rims other than stock stuff for my cars so I'm clueless. Its a pretty decent deal so i was thinking of going to see the rims and test fitting one of them to one of my birds to make i guess if they fit ok, then it should be ok correct?

I was always under the impression that mustang wheels wouldnt work so im kinda stumped about what this guy is saying. Any suggestions?
