When I had my 84 TBird I was running a pair of 12.5 M/T ET's on the back for a while for track use. On the street I had a set of 17" wheels I "borrowed" from a friends mustang that he totaled, (fox platform was great) and was running 305's on the back (can you even get those anymore?) and 255's on the front. (my inner fenders were rolled but that's not very hard to do).

1990 35th Anny. Supercoupe (under construction). 1991 Supercoupe (tastefully modded). 1989 5-speed Supercoupe (modded). 2003 Yamaha YZF600R (rocket)
1989 Taurus SHO (very lightly modded, but broken again)
1967 Ford F100 2WD (460 bored .060 over, too much cam and gearing for the street).

I had 255s on the back of my '88 XR7, but they rubbed a little bit on the front.

What wheel diameter are you going to use? That will limit your choices. If you're staying with the stock 16" wheels, 255/50/16 will be your widest choice.

Then 275/50/15 will be a bit shorter than stock, or you could go as tall as 275/60/15 if the car isn't lowered, and you really want to fill the fender.
