I ruined a tire today

Well, my two month old 215/70/15 BF GOODRICH RADIAL T/A's are now only 3 out of 4...I was driving down the road today, got distracted, looked up, car in front of me has slowed down considerably...first time I've actually locked up the brakes since I've owned this car....I ended up flat spotting the front passenger side tire....there are chunks missing, it's horrid....so, time to get a new one at least it wasn't all four

Are you saying that tire was new two months ago?

Because it sure looks like it has dry rot cracking between the treads, like the crack to the right of this tire:

But yeah, trashing a tire sucks. But it's good that you didn't hit the car, or the flat spotted tire would be the worst of your problems.

just put it on the back, and do a good 2 minute burnout....that should take care of the flat spotting..
