I think I am in the minority because I have seen many people say the second gen SC wheels are hideous.

I like the 2nd gens., but love the 1st gen ones.

To be more correct, I actually love both generations of SC 16x7 wheels.

I just am not a fan of the centers of the 2nd gen ones. I have a set but am going to use fan centers on them with some slight moding of the retaining lips. It's the smooth centers I like, not the exposed lugs.

Im very happy with my second generation SC wheels instead of the stock fan blade wheels my LX came with

Insomnia sounds serious, But I wouldn't loose any sleep over it.

I have the first gens sitting in my garage. I loved them. Much better then the fans. But I prefer the second Gens do to more visual effects on the wheel.

2nd generation sc wheels are directional, 1st generation sc wheels are not. I like 2nd generation sc wheels a lot better.

... thats because those are 96/97 Sport center caps - the 94/95 SC wheels came with the flat caps with the Bird on them. My buddy picked up a set for his Tbird, and im pretty sure we slapped some fanblade caps on with no modifications necessary.

In my opinion, it doesnt matter which set you get - as long as they are Chrome.

I like that the 2nd gens are directional, but I like the look of the 1st gen wheels better. If someone made an exact copy of the 1st SC wheels, but reversed direction, I would buy them in a heartbeat.

I like them both....I had a set of 1st gen SC wheels on my old 95 bird for the last month or so that I owned the car, they where GREAT...the non-directional part sorta sucks, but not a big deal, really....did they come factory in chrome as an option?

Yeah, I found that fan centers work on the 2nd gen SC wheels, but first I need to cut a notch to slip a pry tool in there to get them off .... and then put some shorter open end lug nuts on them.

I've seen chromed 15" Fans, I don't recall seeing chromed 16" SC wheels?

I must have lead a sheltered life. Until I read this thread, I didn't realize the 1st gen SC wheels weren't directional? I just never took note, but since reading this .... I've looked.

Depends on the car. I love the Lacy Spoke 16x7 on my Mercury GM, but yeah ....
.... the 7 spoke Mercury XR-7 wheel looks really good on a T-Bird IMHO.

I have a set on my '92 T-Bird Sport that I stripped and polished and made aluminum centers for and painted the recessed portions black.

I love them, but it was a lot of work. Someday, maybe I'll do another set maybe for the '95?

Thanks Roadrunner,

If you do, and if you strip them it's some kind of epoxy paint stuff, and then some sanding finishing off with sanding spinning wheels on car (car chocked at front with LR on stand, engine idling in low, press hard and I could stop the wheel) with block that spans over 2 spokes (so not get between), then polishing, then paint and wipe excess off polished surface with solvent on wrag, then tires, etc.

Centers are cut from about 1/8" aluminum and riveted with stainless steel 3/16" pop rivets with washers on back side to the stainless steel "spring rings" from some busted original plastic center caps I had. Looks like little button headed allen screws until you get close and look hard. Used a compass to lay out circles for rivets and outer edge, then laid "spring ring" on circle and marked holes to be drilled.

This closer picture was taken after doing the wheels, but before I lowered the car 1-1/2 to 2 inches. The other picture of whole car up at Endless Caverns is after lowering. Until posting this, I hadn't looked all that close at this picture in a long while, the lowering really is evident between here and later.

I love them too.

Hope it helps!

A fine pair ... ... and whatever you do, Have a Safe Trip!

Dont bother with a notch unless youre going to re-paint, just put a towel or something against your wheel face when you pry them off.

Chrome wheels were a Dealer add on. Now you have seem them.

.. I thought the 98 Cobras came with the 1995 "R" style wheels, just no R center cap .. Anything made for the Tbird bolt pattern is a "Replica"

The style is similar, but the spokes are a tad more rounded on the 98 cobras and there's no lip. They're also 17x8" vs. the 95 R's 17x9

Man ..... those do look GOOD!

I've seen chromed 15" Fans several times, never a set of these before though.

Wonder how a set would look polished?

Got me a pic to use for insperation now! Thank you for sharing it.

They look good, but those are Definately not "R" style wheels if the face goes all the way to the lip - and its too curvy, they look more like 98 Cobras.
