Hey will a 17 X 9" fit under my 1997 t-bird?

Some websites say only a 8" wide wheel can be used on my 97 t-bird. I know offset effects this, but will a 17 X 9 detroit "R" fit? I've found other 17 X 9 wheels on-line, but unsure if these will work or not. Is there a particular backspacing I need to look for?

Thanks guys,

I'm not sure about the backspacing, but you can fit 17x9 rims. My dad has 17x9 Cobra R replica's on his 94 SC and I've got 9" wide rims on the rear of my 94 LX.

Hopefully Brad/cudaz or someone who knows for sure will chime in on the backspacing. If you go to www.thecustomwheelshop.com and click on Thunderbird/Cougar, those rims will all fit your 97.

Thanks guys,
Not many wheel dot com's have a clue what can be done with a Tbird/Cougar/Mark...So why roll the dice??

The Detroit R's are not being built anymore, for several years now. So if there is a wheel company selling them beware of a scam.

Bumpsteer?? Most common complaint. Running a 245-50-17 tire would solve that. New Jersey Roads dont help either.
