is this offset to much

i bought som 18x7.5 wheels today. i have to have the center bore enlarged. they are a 51 offset. i could use a spacer but i prefer not to, is this to much offset for direct application.

I know for a fact that 18x7.5's with a 40mm is what most people shoot for when running this size rim. A 51mm offset may be a bit too much. You could use them, but you might have to run AT LEAST a 1/4 spacer to avoid hitting the front spindles.

The difference between a 40mm offset wheel and a 51mm offset is right at 7/16".

on my 97 mark viii i have 19x8.5 with a wheel offset 46 and had to use i beilive a 8mm spacer, the front wheels were hitting the upper control arm just a pinch..just as reference. i think the marks/t-birds/cougers have the same susp config.
