Factory Wire Wheels

I got into an accident and one of my (as you know) very rare locking wire wheel covers was destroyed along with the steel rim. I want to know where I can look to find a replacement, or if anyone on here has one. I also want to know how many years these were an option and how many cars these were fitted on. I know these are rare, I just want your opinions. Im looking for one like these:

If I could get one of these I would be stoked, but I know my chances are slim to none. Hence the reason for my "WTB: Rims" thread. Thanks guys.

I have never seen them on a mn-12 bird or cougar.

I have seen them on the generation just prior.

Good luck on the hunt.

Well I am willing to sell my fanblades for one
and 2 Im willing to let them go cheap cause I won't really miss them and you need a set of wheels.

I am missing a center cap btw

THey need the tires popped off, tires aren't really good but they are good enough to drive you to a shop to put new ones on. I drove them until I had another set of wheels and tires and simply swapped. So these have been sitting ever since.

or I have heard of people shipping with the tires ON but then just cover the front and back of the rim with cardboard. I remember reading this is how they get shipped together by some companies.

PM if you really want them. I am in Phoenix and these are weighty so shipping won't be cheap because of the weight but it still shouldn't be as much as a junkyard would charge here(~200 buck for 4 stock wheels!!! 100 on half off day) so its still a good deal for you.

A little too late, thanks though man. I found a wheel cover that matches mine on eBay, first one I have ever seen.

By the way... You had asked me about a dark red fender, I have nothing in that color red.

Mine was the other color red.

I have seen those on ONE other bird that I remember...looked just like yours but it was some weird brown color...rare or not, I'd say keep your eyes out for a good set of stock wheels The guy who I traded my fanblades to for SC wheels might still have them, PM me and I'll give you his contact information

Well, I just found one to put on my car to put it back to original condition. I will get it back on the road and then think about different rims.

so my favorite thing i loved about the old birds was the light on the side in the front that would pop on when ur turn signal was on,Very helpful when turning at night , but anyways i noticed in this picture the pillar on the door between the quarter window and the door window is color matched, Is that a custom touch cause im pretty sure they come a standard black , either way i think that looks awful . Oh and bud id seriously invest in some nice wheels those out dated hubcaps are hideous

Yeah, I scraped the vinyl off of the B Pillar, it was all wrinkled and peeling anyways so I took it off. I am going to replace it though. I didnt know that only the 1989-1993 cars had the marker lights, I just realized that after you mentioned it. I know my B Pillar looks awful right now, and I am not a fan of the whitewalls either but I am going to get some new tires soon (Yokohama AVID TRZs), and they wont be whitewalls. The hubcaps arent bad up close...

Haha, I know right. I really like the way these cars look and all Ford of this era actually, the very reason I own a 1989 F-150 in addition to my 1989 Thunderbird.

And I was about to get someone to take the rims and tires off my hands too. I'd really want very little out it because they are only worth scrappable pocket change.

But then shipping isn't free.

But you get better handing from wider/lighter wheels so I wouldn't keep them personally but it is a curiosity to see a different oem product option.

They are not that bad...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWAX%3AIT

Remember, these cars were built and marketed as Luxury machines, the closest modern analogue is probably the Cadillac CTS Coupe. Wire wheels were a luxury touch for decades before, and ended with these wheel covers.

Im sorry, I would but the most cost efficient thing for me is to keep it original and I will go with larger wheels later on after my next set of tires.

Yeah its true save your money.

These caps are like something you'd find on an 88-89 cv or gm and maybe even TC. Its true the car can't escape being from the 80s, i think the interior was of great quality for its time and price.

I love the interior of my car, I even like the exterior (I prefer the 1989-1991s, the front end and the taillights that go all the way across). But then again I enjoy listening to cassette tapes... haha.

My stock head unit was broken when I bought the car (integrated amp failed and sound only came out of two speakers), so I replaced it with a unit from a 1997 Thunderbird, it sounds tons better. My center console tape holder and my entire glovebox is filled with tapes.
