295/50R15 tire on 7 inch rim

I would like to put wider tires on the back of my Cat. The 295/50's are the same diameter as the stock tires, but are 3 inches wider.
Would there be any problem putting that wide of a tire on a 7 inch wheel?

Thanks.

I don't think something that wide would fit. Recommended minimum rim width for tires that size is 8".

Widest I'd ever go personally on a 7" rim is 255. Even then there will be an awful sidewall bulge. Heck, I'm running 255s on my 9" rims.

I have 255/60 15 on the back of my bird with stock fanblades, they don't bulge at all but i agree that would be about the max.

295/50/15 should be on at least an 8" wheel, even that will bulge a bit. 10" is the best size for that, you're looking at an 11-1/2" wide tire.

Proof that they'll fit, but I wouldn't recommend it (at least referring to 7" rim, not on the car):

If you want to put a 295 on a 7" wide rim, you better not plan on taking any corners at any decent speed...

holy sidewall flex batman!

No bulge with 255's on stock fanblades? I'd have to see it to believe it.

Years back, I mounted a worn out pair on my 95's fanblades out of boredom. They will physically mount on the wheels but I'd never drive on them like that. If I remember correctly, they looked like they would rub the fender a bit if it hit a bump too.

245-50-15s are about it but depending on the tire (Brand Design) go with 255s but that is the MAX MAX limit IMHO. I ran 245-50s for years on the stock rims and they are more like 6.5s than 7s

Is that the same size in the front?
I'd like to put this size tire on my stock 95 Cougar.

I ran 27x10/ 15 hoosiers on my stock fan blades and they bulged like a mofo on one side. Very scary crossing the traps with those.
