Before standard Metric sizing tires were measured in letters (F70-14) for example. Prior to that they were measured in inches. But that goes back before my time even. I think it was overall diameter / sidewall depth / wheel size but I'm not sure.

I do know that some truck tires are still measured that way, and also some racing slicks.

There is more than one size that will fit on a 15" wheel. What slicks specifically are you looking at? What gear ratio are you running, and what trap speeds are you expecting?

I ran 26x9.5x15's on stock Tbird wheels, but they're now on Stang V6 wheels. They're DR's but they look like slicks and hook just as good.
