Where on the Spindle......

I am fixing to test fit my Dante Design 17x9 Cobra R's....and I am dreading that they will rub due to all the posts I have read about the Dante' Cobra R's. I also know that people say "Don't worry about grinding on it, its beefy and doesn't affect anything".

My question/request is...Does anyone have a picture of EXACTLY where I am supposed to be grinding down? I know it's not on the actual arm of the spindle. But I thought I read something about the knuckle or something. I am going to jack up the car tommorrow and see where I can grind down.

Also, is it the tire that touches the spindle or the actual rim that is touching the spindle?

I've been running those wheels for over two years now and have no rubbing issues.

Tire size? How much clearance do you have? All I am going by is all the older threads I have been reading. Do you also have hubcentric rings?

No hubcentric rings, 255/45 tires. There's not much clearance, less than 1/4" IIRC. I took a picture of the clearance between the spindle and rim at one point, let me see if I can find it.

Here it is. No evidence or bumping or rubbing.

All right so the wheels I purchased had worn out 245/45/17 and 275/40/17 on them, so I test fit them this afternoon, for fear of spindle rubbing, but I was pleasantly surprised on either the 245 or 275 I had no rubbing.

My question is, on the 275's on the rear, I have heard about people putting 275's on non-rolled fenders and cutting a tire. The car is lowered with vogtlands, but it looks like there is quite a bit of room, but idk, hence why I ask.

Comments and info is welcomed and encouraged!!!

Sorry I couldn't get back to you sooner - I just got back from work.

Anyway, from what I've heard, on a non-lowered car, 275s/285s out back will be fine without rolling the fenders. I intend to go 285/40s when my 255s wear out at the end of the year.

Unfortunately I have a lowered car 1 3/4". But in the pic it looks like plenty of room. Am I just being naive?

LOL actually last summer we lived in Vermont for 4 months and bought these from board member 95BLKLSC from Boston. Drove down to BAWSTAN, loaded em in the pickup, then brought them back home to the Midwest and have been really fretting about them rubbing on the spindle. Since all my tools and jacks and air compressor is back home in Illinois, I had to go and buy a jack and such just to test fit them.

So now it is on to pricing/researching tyres. Trying to decide to go with all 255's or 275's on the back.

By the way Ox, you missed a good show in the Dells, prob close to 1200 cars, not a single MN12 other than mine... sad

I heard it was a good time, there are already tons of videos on YouTube of the craziness that took place. I was helping 94 Thunderbird XX (Kim) build my diff so I couldn't make it. Maybe next year. How much longer are you in WI? Stop by for some beers when you get a chance.

Thats a good choice, I am just leary of the 275's cutting the rear tyre, which I have read about in previous threads. It's been lowered 1 3/4" and I don't run bags. THanks for the input

We leave Wisconsin end of June, so another 5-6 weeks. Once I get the new rubber on, I may need short road trip. What side of MKE do you live in? Obviously I would be comming down 41 so Germantown wouldn't be a bad place.
