Yes, 245/45 will work fine on a 9" rim. Myself and others have run that size for years.

I do recommend lowering the car at least an inch though for it to look right.

awesome, thank you for the info looks like ill be lowering the car in the near future aswell. lol

and trunk monkey i realize you have alot of experience in these vehicles and if you get the chance to take a look at my posts so far i would appreciate any feedback you could give me on what i could do as a beginner to make my thunderbird a little more powerful. -Paul

Even two different model tires from the same manufacturer will have different tread width and section width and will have different specs. You have to see what the specific tire has for minimum and maximum wheel width.
