Spare tire question

I have a 1995 40th Anniversary T-Bird.

It has the original spare tire still in the trunk.

My son has a FORD Escort ZX2 Cool Coupe, with 185/60R15 tires.

He's getting new tires in a few days.

One of his tires was replaced, and is in pretty good shape.

Do you think that tire would go on the spare tire rim in my car?

I didn't know if it was a weird size or something.

Thanx

Your original 15"x4" spare doughnut has a 125/90/15 size tire on it..

When you compare that tire to a 185/60R15 size tire..The diameter of the two tires is almost the same..

The 185/60R15 size tire will fit, but it will bulge out..

It is a spare tire afterall...As long as you take it easy if you ever have to use it, I don't see there being a problem..

I would not bother changing it out. The carpeted cover board may not lay flat, leaving you with a messy trunk area, and $20 lighter.

For those of us who have a rotted out spare, if you can find a lincoln LS 17" spare wheel, a 135/80/17 is available at tirerack as a dedicated spare, and is 25.5" in diameter. Little spendy though, at $77 to 130.

The 16x4 Taurus spare will also fit our cars, and a 135/90/16 tire is also available in the $100 range from tire rack. At only .4" wider than the stock spare, it should fit under the cover fine.

won't fit in the spare tire well.

This is a 185 wide LS spare. It is larger in diameter, but it fits okay diameter wise in the well, just really tall.

I wouldn't put a 135 wide tire on the LS spare, it is 5 inches wide.

The hot setup for these cars is the 18 inch orange Jaguar XF/XJ if I can find one for under 100 bucks it is mine. Not a common find in the you pull it places, or regular junk yards for that matter.

Even if just with the rim there are "tyres" for it for under a hundred.

A 135 section width tire is 5.3", will fit on a 5" spare just fine with room to spare, and will tuck into the well fine too.

Can always go down to the Taurus 16x4 as they are much more common, and will fit a 5.3" tire too.
