275 tall tire on mark8?

I already know it will look stupid but I may be having to use my m8 for awhile this coming cold months and was wondering if I could fit a 275 tall tire on it ..I need maximum clearance come snow because up here in the u.p come October to April road surfaces don't exists up here ..
The tires have the same width as stock just much taller..
I have the tires on my jeep and are expensive blizzaks with minimal miles..

275 denotes the tire width, not the height.

I have been driving a Mark VIII through Michigan winters for the last 7 years. I use the stock size- 225/ something 16s. The old theory with snow tires is that you want skinny tires, not wide.

If you can swing it, get some dedicated winter/ snow tires. At the very least get a set for the rear.

Real snow tires make a GIANT difference when driving on ice and snow.

If you want a good quality snow tire in stock 225/60/16 I've had excellent luck in Duluth, MN with General Altimax Arctics. They're right around $70/tire, they grip very, very well, and will give you all the traction you need. Had them on my first 97 Thunderbird, and on my 2002 Crown Victoria and I was able to make it through anything the winter could throw at me with no problems.

If you wanted a taller tire to gain ground clearance, it's going to mess up your speedometer enough to make it short shift a lot, and you'll be driving much faster than the indicated speed. Ground clearance on our cars isn't bad unless lowered, and if you're on a Mark with the air ride functional, you can adjust the sensors to give yourself a little more lift if you want.

Edit-- A 27.5" tire will be 2mph faster at an indicated 60mph. So it won't affect your speedo or shifting quite so much. A 225/65/16 will do the job, but at $100/tire for the Altimax Arctic 12 (their latest generation) for an extra half inch of clearance seems like a lot of work for little gain. https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...omCompare1=yes

You're better off at stock ride height (which isn't all that low), tires are a little cheaper, no funny stuff with the speedo. Remember, even though the tire is a full inch taller than stock, you're only going to gain half that in clearance.

Sorry I meant 225/75r16 same width as stock just taller..I think stocks are 225/45..at least that's what's on mine now..I'm not worried about short shifts,I'm sure it will shift still better than stock because on my tune I have all my shifts lengthened and firmed up.I can adjust all my shift points and actually I think my tuner lets me put in the wheel size.
And every half inch I can gain helps...lol I think there's 2 plows and one tractor for this whole area and I live at the base of a ski hill sooooooooo.ya.

I can only speculate but 28" is about the tallest that may "fit", and even then I suspect even that may be too tall for the front(anything beyond 27" is taller than the upper ball joint). 225/75/16 is over 29", if that even clears the tops of the fender wells at stock height you'll have clearance issues with the inner rockers in the rear and the upper spindles up front, possibly having rubbing issues towards full steering lock as well

I was able to verify that a worn 235/75 15 (27.11 inches tall) will clear the front upper control arm (but a fresh tire with lugs may require a little grinding). That is the max tire size.

You would have to find the equivalent height tire for a 16 wheel- which appears to be a 235/60 16. Or a 225/60 16.

You lost me here..
I plan on mounting the 225/75r16 tires on my stock mark8 rims...I looked at it today and there's A lot of room ..rears I'm sure will fit no issue but I do worry when my car lowers if I will have any rubbing issues up front ...

Don't do it.
I live in Northern Minnesota, we get as much if not more snow than you do in Michigan, and if your car is at stock ride height, it'll be fine on stock sized 26.6" tires.

BTW, stock size is 225/60/16. A 225/75/16 is a 29" tire, way too tall to fit. If you're running a 225/45/16, that's a super short tire. Nearly 2.5" shorter than stock. So going back to 225/60/16 will get you 1.25" over what you have now.

Just a few years ago (2013?) when we had that polar vortex winter, we'd get 3 feet of snow, followed by below zero temps, then it'd warm up, get 3 more feet of snow, then below zero temps again. I was driving a Crown Vic on 225/60/16 Altimax Arctic snow tires and I would regularly pass lifted 4x4's with no issues. I made it through bumper deep snow, and it was fine. Just get good quality snow tires in the correct size for our cars and you'll do fine. General Altimax Arctic, Firestone Winterforce, Michelin X-ice, Good Year UltraGrip, and yes the good old Blizzak are all fine.
