Requesting tire advice....

I will be paying off my CC in a month or two and will be getting new tires to replace the Kumho 711s i have now in a 245/45/17. The three i am looking at are:

1. Firehawk SZ50EP

2. Nitto NT555

3. Falken Ziex ZE-512.

I need a tire with a stiff sidewall, good wet traction, and good treadwear....I have narrowed down to these three...Anyone have any input?

well first of all, that tire size in an entire inch shorter than stock. Not only will it mess up the speedo, but the tires will wear faster due the overload.

I would suggest These

Matt "Looks Like Egon" Davis
96 Alpine Green V8
98 Audi A8 4.2Q in Racing Green Totalled
02 Audi A8L 4.2Q in Black

I buy my OEM Ford parts at 10% over dealer cost from Steve in White Bear Lake, MN.

Can you better explain how a 1" shorter tire is going to wear faster? And how a tire being 1" shorter will somehow cause it to be overloaded?

I have run 245/45s for over three years. The only tire that wore out faster due to overload were the Kumho 712s because they cupped. My Firehawks showed even treadwear and i got 20k miles out of them....My KDWSs wore evenly and got 20k out of them also. My speedo is 5mph over..i dont care about that. Both the Firehawks and KDWS had a load index of 95..the Kumho had a load index of 89. My current tires are Kumho 711s, in a 245/45...have a load index of 95 and show no obnormal wear patterns. Im not a fan of the Scorcher...input on the tires i have listed, would have helped more.

I'm not sure what size rim you're running, but I have 255/45R17s on all four corners. The SZ50EPs beat the Michelins I have on right now, hands down. The Firestones are great in the rain(I had them while living in FL), and just as good dry. They are much stiffer than the Michelins as well. It's also a very quiet tire at highway speeds. Treadwear was good, not excellent, but this is a performance tire we're talking about.
I'm trying to beat up my Michelins so I can go back to the SZ50s...

I had the SZ50s almost 4 years ago....yeah they were badass...I listed some other tires besides those to see if anyone had any other input. I have a 7 inch wide rim and have been running a 245/45 for quite a while. I almost forgot how good a tire the firehawks were...they are 139 each at tirerack now Screw it, ill be ultra tight with my money and get the fire-mutha-f'n hawks.
