255/50/17s and Eibachs?

Im pondering running 255/50s along with my Eibach springs. Does anyone run this combo? Any rubbing issues? I plan to get either BFGs or Pirrelis...if anyone has had any problems with the 255/50s, im gonna go with 245/45s

255/50 17 BFG's with Eibach's is what I am running. They are on Sport Edition Fox 5 rims, which I think are 17x9 I don't remember now. Any way I had them rubbing on the upper control arm stud. It was not rubbing real hard, just enough to shine it up after awhile. I ground the stud down and have not noticed anymore rubbing up there. Now the rear is a different story. For some reason the driver's sider rear rubs on the inner lip of the wheel well when I go over almost any bump in the road, especially if I have someone with me or some weight in the trunk. It is a rather annoying sound, but I have gotten used to it now, and it has not cut a tire yet

Im thinking the 50 series might be a little too much side wall with Eibachs...maybe a 255/45 might fit me a little better and not have any rubbing issues...Thanks for the forewarning.

255/50/17 is the same diameter as the 235/55/17 that I am running now. It is maybe .4" wider. I have no rubbing issues with mine but I am running the linear rate Suspension Techniques springs. I have been running around with a couple of hundred pounds od car parts in the trunck and no clearance issuse. I have the Kuhmo KH-11's and love them.

The 255/45 is probably a good comprimise. was thinking of running them next time, but the mroe I drive on my Kuhmos, the more I like them and will probably get them again!

I use 245/50R17 - 245/45 are a lot shorter than stock, while 245/50R17 is the same diameter used on the Sport sized 225/60R16 - I think 245/50R17 is perfect myself.

I'm running 255-45-18 on 8.5" wheels, +35 offset, lowered on Eibachs ... those tires are pretty much the same overall dimensions as 255-50-17.

Some slight rubbing on the rear fender lips, so we cut them down a bit thinner, and I also have Airlift bags in the rear springs to keep the back of the car up when it's loaded.

255/50-17 are the perfect size tires for our cars in my opinion. Nothing looks worse than fender gap. What's the point in lowering your car to get rid of gap just to add in 17" wheels with little skinny tires that increase the gap?

I have them on my car and have a full 3/8" between the tire and the upper control arm joint. No problems whatsoever. On the rear I get VERY slight rubbing when you bounce the suspension, but it's only on the plastic inner liners. It makes a funny noise in the car but is 100% harmless.

i think i might go with 255/45s....i like the shorter sidewall, im lowered so i dont have much fender gap anyway. I know the speedo is thrown off, but ive run a 245/45 for almost 4 years. I just would like to try a wider footprint..Of course, i can always tell the Sears Tire Center guy how interested i am..last time he let me browse the warehouse in the back for 20minutes...Im considering a wider tire so i can get a higher load index, my Kumho 711s have a 95 index and the sidewalls roll over on themselves..

I have a set of 255/50 17's in BF Goodrich Scorcher T/A's . I am having them put on SVT 17x7 Cobra T-Bird wheels. I have the stock suspension on for now, but I am expecting the springs from the Mager Thom group purchase any day now. Will I have any rubbing problems with the "majer thom" drop? Also. you guys running those Kumho's should not support the Koreans. I have 900 brothers and sisters from my local union 878L of the united steel workers laid off b/c of overseas tire companys dumping their products in our markets cheaper than we can produce them. I work for Goodyear, and ALL of the N.American tire producers are suffering due to kumho, yokohama, falken and many others being dumped in our market. OUR tires say MADE IN THE USA on them. If yours doesnt have that, you should throw them away. BUY AMERICAN! Thanks to NAFTA the big comapaies like Goodyear, Firestone, Michelin are doing their best to move their operations overseas where they do not have to pay benefits to the workers and sell their products back to us at the same cost. They have screwed 900 people in my union out of their jobs. 2000 Goodyear/Dunlop employees in Huntsville, AL lost their jobs right before Christmas. Nice present huh? DO NOT SUPPORT OVER SEAS TIRE PRODUCERS!

I ran Kumhos before(712s) and got some takeoffs(711s) and they are the worst thing ive ever driven on. Ill be going with BFG g-force KDWSs or Pirelli's new American mandfactured PZero Nero MS. Speaking of NAFTA, my dad lost his job just after it was signed in '93. He worked for A Duda&Sos. I large produce company, they sell Dandy brand. If you get Dandy celery or Radishes with an Oviedo, Fl. address at the bottom, he used to sell those I think the quality of some of the overseas producers shows. Bello Tire in West Palm refuses to sell Kumho or Sumitomo...he doesnt like the results he has had.

Every one has a right do what they want, but even if the over seas products were superior to ours, I won't buy them. I could go on for hours about the FTAA and NAFTA, but it just gets me upset. Goodyear Gatorback 245/45's are good tires too, but they are very proud of them.

HA !! That made my day !! Gatorbacks are good to cut up for boat dock bumpers, that's about it. They were introduced in 1983, tire technology has come a long way in 20 years. The only reason Ford still uses them on the Mustangs is because they get the tires for about $5 each. Goodyear hasn't made Gatorbacks in any other size than 245-45ZR17 for many years, because they are old obsolete crap. They do have many newer tires, like the F1 GS, F1 GS-D3, and Eagle HP, which are in fact good tires.

Those D3s are 'posed to be wicked tires....too bad they are about 180$, when they were first introduced, they were dirt cheap but tirerack and discount tire have kept the price kinda high.

Yes, the F1 GS-D3 tires are excellent ... I know several people who have them. When they were introduced last year, Goodyear had some incentive rebates on them, making the price very attractive, but I don't believe they are still running that program. I have the previous generation GS-D2 skins on my SC, they work pretty well, just noisy approaching the limit of grip ... they give lots of warning to scare people from pushing any harder.

Well I've had 275/40-17 on 9" wide rims in the back. Chrome Cobra R's. They rubbed on the fender lip, it was rolled to accomodate. It is a short tire like the 245/45-17, but if you run the 245's up front the tire heights match real well.

We have a new line of tire coming out soon that should be a good performing tire. They are called ComforTred, and I think they are a combination of performance/rain/all weather radials rolled into one. They are not being devolped at my plant, so I have only seen the pics and not the actual tires. BZ

i'm running 255/50/17 bf kdws on 17x7 wheels and lowered on eibach in my 94. also noticed it only rubs right rear side.

my set up could let the alignment shop to hook up their alignment machine and everytime if i need to get alignment done, i have to switch tires with my other car.
