Looking at these wheels...will they fit?

I'm sure this is the most commonly asked question here...but I'm looking at some forte Gratiot wheels...I think they have a nice luxury look and are relativly cheap. Anyway...I'm looking at the 18 x 7.5's...only I'm not sure if they'll fit. I have a95 Cougar...just bought it and just started getting into researchign them...so I just don't know that much yet.

Anyway...these are the sizes offered in the 18 x 7.5's...

18X7.5 4/100-4/114.3 +40 67.1 1,580
18X7.5 5/100-5/115 +40 73.1 1,580
18X7.5 5/114.3-5/107.95 +40 73.1 1,580
18X7.5 5/120.65-5/112 +35 74.1 1,580

That's size, then bolt circle, the off set, then center bore, then load rating.

Anyway...sorry to bother and thanx for the help.

Nope, sorry, you need 5 x 108 bolt circle.

4.25 = 107.95 ~= 108

So are you saying they will fit? If not, is there anyone to modify a wheel to fit? Do you think you can pay a little extra and order them from the factory with a different bolt pattern? One thing I've learned in the car customizing business is that if you are serious you can tend to get anything to fit anything. It's just a matter of cost.

I think I'd actually rather have these...but it doesn't say anything about the fitment. I tried to download the fitment guide and couldn't get it to work. They're a wee bit on the pricy side though.

Yeah...for the longest time I didn't really like them either. My biggest challenge with picking wheels for this car was that it's important to find something that fits the style of the car. It's a 95 coug...not a tbird...so it's just not sporty at all. I've seen a lot of cougs with wheels more suited to sporty styled cars. My challenge here is to pick a wheel that it's big, bold, but maintains a luxury look to it. I'd appreciate any suggestions if anyone has them.

Yes, that one will fit. I was just trying to say that our bolt pattern is 5x4.25in. 4.25in. is exactly 107.95mm. Most wheel manufactures I've seen list it as 108mm (less characters I guess, but close enough to the value).


As for what style of wheels you get, that's up to you. It's your car. When you ask for others' opinions, you usually get a lot that either really like it or not. Everyone likes their own wheels (usually) because something just clicks when they see them. But that same thing might click with others. Personally I like open 5-spokers, and some 6-spokers, but that's my taste.


As for getting manufactures to custom drill a set to fit our bolt pattern, it can be done. But it takes extra time to get it done. And time = money. I'd try talking to some retailers, suppliers, and/or the manufacturer about availibility of custom drilling. I'd also see if a local wheel retailer has any of the style you like in stock (even if they don't have to correct bolt pattern) and see if they'll put it next to your car so you can kind of get a feel of how they'll look.

The way I see it, when people see you drive by they shouldnt say "hey look at those wheels." They should say "hey look at that car." You want your wheels to be part of your car, to add to the image. Not be the only thing people see.

how about some budniks? centerlines? Cragers?

That's an awesome idea. I think what I'll do when I ready to actually purchase a set of wheels is have someone photoshop them on my car so I can get a decent idea of how they'll look. I guess the unfortunate part about owning a cougar is that they're not nearly as commonly customized as other vehicles and therefore how few aftermarket products and/or fewer customized examples to look at. Of course, a lot can be said for owning a car that you don't see 100 times a day. For the most part, I'm pretty happy with mine.

Yes your wheels should be part of the over all structure of your car. That's what I was trying to allude to earlier. Your wheels should match the style of your car. Cars that have wheels that equal or surpass the value of their entire car aren't customized...they just have wheels on it. The goal is to create an over all effective product. But I also think that there is something to be said for purchasing parts that will be noticable...at lest upon closer inspection. The wheels that are actually on the car look fine...nice style, clean, and fit the luxury feel. There are 100 wheels out there that I could buy that wouldn't be any better that what's already on there. Putting on something that's different just because it's different has never really be what I've been into. It has to be an improvement that that is worthy of the $$$ you have to spend for these kinds of things. I just want to find the best looking wheel for the vehicle. If I just wanted to be gaudy and buy the most trick wheel available...without regard for style or tact, I'd pick up some gold wire spinners

I guess I wasn't paying enough attention. I didn't see that 5/107.95, what were the set of number right in front of that, I thought that was the bolt circle and stopped reading the lines there when I didn't seen any 5/108's in those sets of numbers, oh well.

It is easy to do. When I pasted them in there they grouped together making it kind of tough to read. Oh Well...

BTW, I've decided I don't really like the Giovanna wheels...but mostly because they only come in 20's. That seems a wee bit on the big side for this car.

I think 18's are just right and the tire height is about right if you run a 255/45. The more I have been looking at my car lately, the more I wish I had put those up front too, it is what I have on the back of mine with 245/45/17's in front.
