245-50-17 will be very close to the same diameter as stock tires. In 55 series, 225-55-17 or 235-55-17 would fit as well. Nothing in a 60 series 17" is going to work properly on a Bird / Cougar.

Both cars in my signature are running 245/50R17. The gap still looks a little big on the T-Bird - I still need to install my Eibachs...

I'm running 255-45-18 tires, which are about 1/4" taller than the original SC tire size.

Pics of the car can be seen on my site, http://fast-ed.stevemcqueen.ca

cheers,
Ed N.

I run 255/50-17s on mine. They fill the wheel wells VERY well. They're also the stock size tire on the Impalla SS if memory serves, so there are several options available albeit not as many as in 245/45-17.

Sir Will, My 17's are 17x7.5

Will 255's fit or is 245 as wide as I can go?

Thanks

Sure 255's are no problem on 7.5" wheels. The little bit of extra sidewall bulge will help prevent curb damage too.
