Luggage Racks??

I have always liked the look of a decent luggage rack, and I've
come to the conclusion that one will be placed on the roof
of my birdy. Here's where you all come in..
What kind of rack seems to look best on our cars? And fitment
is another thing. I would have my body guy do it but he wants
nothing to do with drilling and placing a luggage rack.
Any ideas?

I seem to recall there being a thread on this somewhere..

Maybe fkostyun will chime in..He's the only one I know that has a "roof rack"..

Here's a pic of his car with the rack installed..

I did a brief search for a possible thread but was unable to locate such a thing.
Then again I didn't search the hardest either. That is a very good example of what kind
of rack I want to install though. So far from my research I've been doing it seems like I may just need some self tapping screws. But in that case I've also seen self tapping screws
rust horribly unless the are stainless?

Self tapping screws?? Through the roof of the car??? Gobbed up silicone everywhere??? Please don't do that.

That looks like a Yakima rack in the link Rayo posted

I had a Thule rack on my Mark VIII. You need to find the Thule "fit kit" # 110 for it to work. This is a discontinued kit, but there are still some to be found online (no, you can't have mine)

That fit kit works with the 400xt aero foot pack. The clips simply push onto the pinch welds that hold the door gaskets in place, and the feet hook into them.

You'll also need the "Thule short roof adapter 447" since the rear feet on the rack are back past the door opening.

Worked really well, I used bars that were way too long and had a soft rooftop carrier(for light stuff). I mounted bicycles on the outside of that. It was like having a second trunk.

I met a man who wasn't there.
He wasn't there again today,
I wish, I wish he'd go away..."

I'd better post a picture of mine. This was taken at a rest area in Maine, near the Canadian border. Christmas time, all our clothes and beer were on the roof, trunk had Xmas gifts and baby stuff.

In the summer I used longer cross bars and had two bicycles mounted on the sides of the cargo bag.
